It was by chance that Tetrad’s Managing Director, Janus Cooper, fell in love with the beautiful Harris Tweed cloth at a Paris furniture show in 2013. Less than 2 years later, the Tetrad Harris Tweed Sofas and Chairs had become Tetrad's biggest seller. Here's how it all began:
Whilst working on the Tetrad sofa stand at the Paris furniture show, a man wearing a fabulous Harris Tweed jacket caught Janus's and his father's eye. Moments later they stumbled across gorgeous Harris Tweed luggage. He recalls that they both looked at each other and thought – maybe there is something in this.
Before Tetrad launched their partnership with Harris Tweed in 2014, Harris Tweed was mainly used for fashion. It had become extremely popular within the highest social circles so steps were taken to improve productivity and to protect the Harris Tweed name.
The humble cloth became a must-have item for discerning customers across the globe but it was yet to be used widely in interiors. Tetrad were the first major furniture manufacturers to recognise the potential in Harris Tweed.
The partnership was an astonishing success and the Tetrad Harris Tweed Sofas and Chairs quickly became Tetrad's bestselling range. Tetrad are now also one of Harris Tweed Hebrides’s biggest customers.
Like Harris Tweed, which is still handwoven at home by islanders of the Outer Hebrides, Tetrad hand build their pieces using traditional time-honoured techniques. Brian Wilson, who chairs Harris Tweed Hebrides, describes the collaboration as ‘the kind of synergy which sends out strong messages about skills which are very much alive in this country and the demand that exists for quality, craft-based products’.
Today at Taskers, Tetrad Harris Tweed is one of our best-selling brands. Ricky, one of our Sales Advisors, puts the range’s success down to its uniqueness, saying ‘there really is nothing else quite like it’.
The sofas and chairs have a classic look which compliments the timeless Harris Tweed perfectly. Janus Cooper says the inspiration for the collection came from Tetrad’s own archives as well as international influence.
