How to: Throw a Dinner Party
If you don’t feel like venturing out now that the evenings are cold and dark, why not throw a dinner party at home instead? Dinner parties are a great way to get together with friends and family and you can keep your slippers on if you like!
Follow these simple steps to hosting your own show stopping dinner party:
-
Seating
Seating is often the first thing to put people off hosting a dinner party. How can you host a dinner party for 10 when you’ve only got a dining table to seat 6? The answer is, you can't!
An extending dining table is your dinner party’s best friend. Tara, who shared the photos below, chose our Ruston Extending Dining Table. But we've also got Round Extending Dining Tables, Concrete-effect extending tables and even tables that can seat 20! Shop our Dining Tables online.
2. Setting the Scene
Once you’ve got your seating sorted, you can start thinking about place settings, table décor and the finishing touches.
A couple of days before, make time to lay out all intended cutlery, crockery and glasses to see how it all looks and fits. This will also give you time to go out any buy any last minute things you might need.
Nothing sets the mood like lighting candles. We love how this Shiny 8 T-Light Holder looks in the centre of the table or create a beautiful aroma with scented candles from our Marmalade of London collection.

Food and Drink
When it comes to food and drink, keep things simple. Nobody wants to be floundering in the kitchen and missing out on all the fun. After all, hosting a dinner party should be just as enjoyable for you as it is your guests!
Set the tone by greeting your guests with a ready poured glass of prosecco or have a delicious cocktail ready to serve. This will keep your guests occupied whilst you put the finishing touches to your food.
When it comes to food, choose things that can be prepared earlier so all you have to when guests arrive is serve. For example, a selection of nibbles to start, a slow cooked meat for main and a refreshing fruit salad and chocolates for dessert.
4. Enjoy
Now that all the hard work has been done, it’s time to enjoy! Let your guests help themselves to drink, tuck into your delicious food and don't worry about the washing up until tomorrow.
